Family....the beginning, middle, and end.

About Me

I am an Independence native and was part of the last graduating class from St. John's High School. I owned my own childcare business for 14 years. I was also para-professional in the Jesup school district and a teacher for Tri-County Child and Family out of Waterloo.

I graduated from Upper Iowa University in Waterloo. I have a BA in Pre-K - 3rd grade education with a reading and special education endorsements.

I live in Independence with my husband, Chris. We have three children and five grandchildren.

When I'm not in the classroom I enjoy spending time with my family. I like to spend time working on my parent's farm and helping to rebuild Fort Pentecost. My husband and I ride motorcycles. We teach beginner motorcycle riding and three-wheel motorcycle classes for Hawkeye Community College and Southeastern Community College. I am also the Treasurer of the Auxiliary to the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.

My Teaching Philosophy

I am passionate about teaching and helping student's achieve academic success. Along with academic skills, I strive to help students become independent, critical thinkers, develop problem solving skills, and self help skills. My lessons are developed to align with the Iowa Early Learning Standards. I use a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of all types of learners. I believe all students are capable of learning. I believe parents play a vital role in student success.
